Project Overview

  • Working in an occupied museum on an active campus for five months of the schedule duration
  • Integrating the infrastructure and systems of the new addition with the existing building
  • Constructing a complex and unique curtain wall system for the entire building

The highly regarded Colby College Museum of Art required an addition to their existing museum following the donation of 464 works of art worth more than $100 million, making it the largest museum in Maine.

The new three-story Alfond-Lunder Family Pavilion houses a world-class art collection behind a unique glass curtain wall system. The modern structure provides space for exhibitions, studios, classrooms, art storage and offices and has been granted LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Our team also renovated the adjacent brick Georgian-style museum building, including M/E/P upgrades and infrastructure reconfiguration to accommodate the new addition. The project was completed in 2013, in time to celebrate Colby’s bicentennial year.
